There are many advantages to basing yourself in Juliaca. Transport connections here are especially good, with Juliaca offering convenient highway connections and related travel options, connecting neighbouring cities, such as Arequipa, Cusco and also Puno.
Various buses travel throughout Juliaca and around much of Lake Titicaca, meaning that travelling to the main places of interest is usually very affordable. Most long-distance bus transport in Juliaca is to be found at the terminal in the San Martin area, some 2 km / 1 mile to the east of the city centre. It is even possible to travel to Bolivia with relative ease, using the roads around the northerly shoreline of Lake Titicaca.
